Directors:

Indian Council of Medical Research is a premier medical research organization dealing with health research in various areas in collaboration with national and international agencies and through its 32 Institutes/Centres including large number of field stations situated all over the country with state of art infrastructural facilities. The post of Director of ICMR Instt/Centre has all India transfer liability under the ICMR.

Director, Centre for Research in Medical Entomology (CRME), Madurai:

The Centre for Research in Medical Entomology (ICMR) , Madurai is engaged in research on various medico-entomological disciplines especially ecology, physiology, molecular biology, taxonomy, serology and control of vector-borne diseases such as Japanese encephalitis/AES, lymphatic filariasis, dengue/chikengunya and malaria etc. The Institute has three field stations, one each in Trikoilur, Vridhachalam and Chennai. The thrust is also on Surveillance and development of early-warning systems for epidemic outbreaks of various vector-borne diseases, stratification of vector-borne diseases, survey of haematophagous arthropods, development of control strategies for vector-borne diseases and technology transfer to the user agencies. CRME has been recognized as WHO Collaborative Research Centre for research in lymphatic filariasis and dengue during 2008-2011, CRME has been the TDR-WHO Centre for Asian Biosafety Training Course pertaining to Genetically Modified Mosquitoes.

        1. Essential Qualification & Experience: (i) MD/Ph.D in Medicine/ Preventive and Social Medicine/ Community Medicine/ Microbiology/ any of Life Sciences relevant to the filed of Medical Entomology or equivalent from a recognized University or equivalent. (ii) Fifteen years R&D experience in the above fields with original work to the credit of the candidates and experience in related disciplines in recognized Institutes(s) after obtaining essential qualification out of which at least 5 years in a managerial position to handle R&D projects independently in a team effectively in a directing position.
        2. Desirable Qualifications: (i) Additional Post doctoral research/ teaching experience in relevant subjects after MD/ Ph.D in recognized Institute(s). (ii) Knowledge of Computer applications.
        3. Job Requirements: It is a top research management post in the field of Medical Entomology to conduct research on various medico-entomological disciplines especially ecology, physiology, molecular biology, taxonomy, serology and control of vector-borne diseases such as Japanese encephalitis/AES, lymphatic filariasis, dengue/ chikengunya and malaria etc. The Director is required to provide high level leadership in the formulation of research programmes and projects and in organizing/ coordinating team work involving Medical Entomology. He/ She will have the overall responsibility for the working of the Centre within the framework of the ICMR.

Director, Regional Medical Research Centre, Belgaum:

The Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Belgaum is engaged in research on traditional and herbal medicines and on diseases of regional/ local health importance. The Centre is actively working on the scientific validation (safety and efficacy) of herbal preparations /technologies for prevention and treatment of major diseases like metabolic, inflammatory and enteric diseases etc. The thrust is also on screening of medicinal plants/phytoconstituents and chemical characterization of bioactive molecules as well as research on relevant pharmacology. The other major focus of the Centre is studies on the epidemiology and control/ prevention of diseases of regional/ local importance such as vector borne and gastrointestinal  diseases and non-communicable diseases.

        1. Essential Qualification & Experience: (i) MD/Ph.D in Pharmacology/ Medicine/ Preventive & Social Medicine/ Community Medicine/ Microbiology/ Pathology/ any relevant Life Sciences subjects or equivalent from a recognized University or equivalent. (ii) Fifteen years R&D experience in the above fields with original work to the credit of the candidates and experience in related disciplines in recognized Institutes(s) after obtaining essential qualification out of which at least 5 years in a managerial position to handle R&D projects independently in a team effectively in a directing position.
        2. Desirable Qualifications: (i) Additional Post doctoral research/ teaching experience in relevant subjects after MD/Ph.D in recognized Institute(s). (ii) Knowledge of Computer applications or business intelligence tools/ data management.
        3. Job Requirements: It is a top research management post in the field of traditional/ herbal medicines and on diseases of regional/ local health importance. The Director is required to provide high level leadership in the formulation of research programmes and projects and in organizing/coordinating team work involving traditional/ herbal medicines and on diseases of regional/ local health importance. He/She will have the overall responsibility for the working of the Centre within the framework of the ICMR.
        4. Age Limit: Not exceeding 52 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants and SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training from time to time in this regard. However, the prescribed age may be further relaxed in exceptional cases for experienced and qualified candidates.

General Relaxation Clause:

Age, qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientists Cadre of ICMR, 2007 under Rule 14 and Note: 1 & 2 of schedule – III.

Other Service Conditions:

        1. Pay Band-4 Rs.37400-67000 Plus Grade Pay Rs.10000/-
        2. Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay Scale. Benefits of new restructured defined contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECD & PR Division), Notification No.5/7/2003-ECD & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 1.1.2004.
        3. Private practice is not allowed. However, non-practicing allowance is admissible to medical/Veterinary graduates only as per rules.
        4. Applications from employees working in Central/State Govt. Departments/ Public Sector Undertakings and Govt. funded research agencies must be forwarded through proper channel. Advance copies of application will be considered subject to the conditions that a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer is produced at the time of personal discussion. Application received after the closing date will not be considered. Candidates called for personal discussion/interview have the option to answer in Hindi also.

Note: Since it is not possible to call all the eligible candidates for the interview/personal discussion, the applicants will be short-listed for this purpose. The decision of the Director General, ICMR will be final in this regard. Candidates called for interview will be paid a 1st class rail fare by the shortest route on production of documents. Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection/recruitment shall be disqualification. SC/ST/PH and Women candidates are exempted from the application fee. IPOs are payable by all other candidates including ICMR employees. Indian Scientists working abroad are exempted from application fee.
        4. Unsigned/Incomplete application or application without supportive evidence asked for/without postal order application received late are liable to be summarily rejected.
