Scientific Officer (Dryland Systems)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Scientific Officer (Dryland systems) to be based atBijapur, Karnataka, India. This is a nationally recruited position.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is an Alliance of centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics.


      1. Support research for development in action villages of the CGIAR Collaborative Research Program Dryland Systems to develop and evaluate a range of options for sustainably intensifying smallholder farming systems as planned by a multi-disciplinary team of scientists.
      2. Collection and analysis of agronomic and socio-economic research data, participatory management of common property resources, water management structures and other project interventions in the action sites.
      3. Liaise with partners, farmers/ farmer groups and other stakeholders, and training of farmers, development workers, national agricultural research and extension services and research students.


      1. Demonstrated skills in undertaking agronomic field based research, preferably with farmers.
      2. Excellent inter-personal skills.
      3. Excellent computer and communication skills in English
      4. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.


MSc (Agri) with preferred specialization in Agronomy, Soil Science or other related disciplines. In addition to English, ability to communicate in Kannad language is essential.


1 – 2 years’ experience working in research for development will be preferable. Aptitude for working with farmers in participatory mode is desirable. Computer skills to handle normal data analysis in spread sheets as well as preparation of reports are essential.


This position is a nationally recruited staff position for two years and renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute’s continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
