Detail of  National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) BvLF/Child Friendly Smart Cities Chair Recruitment:

The Child Friendly Smart Cities project at NIUA is supported by the Bernard van Leer Foundation and is dedicated to promoting the planning and development of child and family-friendly smart cities in India, with a view to transforming the existing and new urban areas of the country into safe, liveable, equitable and nurturing environments for all children.

The project commenced in November 2014 and is expected to reach completion in October 2017. The project is being executed by a team of professionals drawn from the fields of urban planning, housing and architectural design and related fields. In addition to conducting research and advocacy activities in the broad area related to children and urban planning, the team is also responsible for managing capacity building activities related to the four Child Friendly Smart Cities Centres (CFSC Centres) being established in four cities in India, starting with the first such centre located within the Bhubaneswar Development Authority in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Other cities are likely to be identified during 2016. NIUA will function as the Hub for coordination of activities and monitoring of outcomes produced by each centre.

The BvLF/Child Friendly Smart Cities Chair at NIUA will be occupied by an exceptional individual with the requisite knowledge and experience in bridging disciplines of urban planning, urban governance, public health and public policy with extensive experience in managing diverse teams of professionals and conducting research, advocacy and planning projects that are cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary in nature. The said individual would have minimum 15 years of professional work experience in the government, non-government or private sector.

The responsibility of the ‘BvLF/Child Friendly Smart Cities Chair at NIUA’ would be to work closely with the office of the Director, NIUA, to coordinate and guide the activities of the Hub located at NIUA, to examine new avenues for research and advocacy on the subject of child friendly smart cities in India, to explore the potential for identifying new entry points for engagement with the issue of child friendly smart cities, such as in the new urban and housing missions of the Government of India (especially SMART and AMRUT), and to advance the overall agenda of developing child friendly smart cities in India.

Candidates with international experience and those with experience in the specific area related to children and cities would be given preference. Experience in working with young children would be desirable but not mandatory. Candidates are expected to join NIUA within one month of receiving an offer from NIUA. This condition may be relaxed in exceptional circumstances. Only the shortlisted candidates will be invited to NIUA for an interview, within two weeks after receipt of applications. The selected candidate will be issued an offer letter within one week after the interview.
