Detail of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Project Coordinator Recruitment:

To strengthen ongoing conservation efforts to safeguard the future of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) in captivity and in the wild, the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun invites application for Walk-in-interview for engaging Project Co-ordinator (One Position) for the project entitled “Partnering to support Gir Lion Conservation in Gujarat” purely on contractual basis for a period of one year which is extendable depending upon the performance.  The EQ, DQ and other details of the posts are as under:-

Essential Qualification

(EQ)

Candidate must possess a Ph.D Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Forestry/Life Science from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

(DQ)

Research experience in the field of animal ecology, behavioural sciences, population management, understanding of management of captive animals and in-situ and ex-situ conservation.
6 Description of Job
  • Training of Gujarat Forest Department officials and staff in monitoring ecological parameters as well as wildlife crimes throughout the Gir Conservation Area (GCA).
  • Define monitoring needs and site resources – Stakeholder workshop (finalise data structure, data collection forms, protocols and reporting templates)
  • Ranger and trainers training in use of data forms, data collection protocols and other enforcement skills (training of trainers)
  • Pilot implementation of field data forms
  • Train user(s) at site level in data entry, quality control and processing and report generation
  • Assessment of existing and modified husbandry and enclosure design in Sakkarbaug Zoo and Devalia Interpretation Centre
  • Prescribing improved husbandry protocols and enclosure design at Sakkarbaug Zoo and Devalia Interpretation Centre
  • Assessment of hormonal profiles of captive animals for improved conservation breeding and better welfare
  • Training of zoo personnel in improved animal husbandry practices
  • Developing Species Recovery and Conservation Breeding Plan
  • Training and capacity building of zoo staff, veterinary staff and frontline rescue staff in capture and translocation of “conflict” lions as well as disease surveillance in captured as well as captive populations.
  • General health screening of animals (Body Condition Index, parasite load through coprological investigations) initiated
  • Support for upgrading existing infrastructure
  • Coordinate to Establish an Advisory Board comprising of representatives from GFD, WII and ZSL to develop design, resource materials for the Interpretation Centres
  • Assessment of existing status of extension activities (at Sasan & Devalia) and developing resource materials (at Sasan, Devalia; Junagadh for Girnar WLS & Sakkarbaug and Jasadhar/Dhari for upcoming Interpretation park) and implementation of improved interpretation and education activities
  • Providing basic ecological training for tourist guides, drivers and Interpretation Centre staff in public engagement
  • Developing a curriculum targeted at local schools
  • Coordinate wildlife health capacity needs in consultation with WII faculty

Additional responsibilities

  • Compilation and monitoring of project expenditures and budgets and ensuring reporting and justification of expenditure against ZSL procedures
  • Compilation of monthly highlights and six-monthly and annual reports, and support to project staff in compilation of technical reports to satisfy ZSL requirements.
  • Organisation of project-related meetings and workshops, preparation of materials and taking and production of minutes/meeting reports.
  • Support regarding travel and logistical arrangements for field staff and other ZSL/WII staff engaged on the project.
  • Liaison with project staff and with representatives of partner organisations
  • Providing support to ZSL to prepare promotional and educational material for GFD/WII/ZSL publications, newsletters, brochures, posters, project information sheets and provision of regular updates for relevant web pages within the partner websites.
  • Provide monthly updates to nodal contacts within GFD, WII and ZSL.
  • Liaison with project staff to maintain a library of photos and video.
7 Fellowship Rs.40,000/- + HRA.
8 Age Not exceeding 40 years as on the date of interview. Upper age limit in case of applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ and Physically handicapped categories may be relaxed as per the rules

Walkin Procedure for Project Coordinator vacancy in Wildlife Institute of India (WII):

  1. The candidates should report by 0930 hrs. for scrutiny of documents on 6th May, 2015 followed by an Interview on the same day. No accommodation will be provided for the candidates appearing for interview.
  2. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in application with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications along with certificate of extracurricular activities, date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations etc. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of registration for necessary verification.
