Detail of World Wide Fund India (WWFI) Coordinator Recruitment:

The combination of climate change and an increasing human population in the Himalayan region in the 21st century is increasing stress on both land and water resources, with a resulting negative impact on hydrology, ecosystems, biodiversity and human populations. Therefore an integral approach to better-manage the Himalayas and its resources is required. The LHI is WWF’s response to this opportunity, by pursuing a vision in which nature and people can co-exist in harmony. It is a vision that includes protecting the region’s extraordinary landscapes and rich biodiversity, whilst also sustainably harnessing the opportunities these unique resources can provide, enabling prosperous lives for the human population and the generations to come. The LHI Strategy is mobilising decision-makers and major stakeholders in the region, including governments, civil society and companies, to facilitate the transformation of national level achievements into remarkable regional and international successes. The principle mechanism for delivery is through the implementation of the Framework of Co-operation between the Governments of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh arising from the Bhutan Climate Change Summit held in November 2011 which the LHI facilitated and supported. Location: Secretariat, New Delhi, India

        1. Reports to: Reports to Leader LHGI.
        2. Programme/Project Areas: Nepal, Bhutan, India and WWF Network
        3. Broad Responsibility: S/He is responsible for coordinating the overall achievement of the LHGI objectives and implementation of the three country work plan that contribute to these objectives. S/He is responsible for developing partnerships with relevant institutions within and outside the region for implementing the GIs programme objectives. S/He is also responsible for undertaking policy advocacy to further the objectives of the programme.
        4. Planning and Coordination: Focus on overall planning, mobilization, coordination, and implementation, for achieving key objectives of the Living Himalayas Initiative strategy, particularly in the context of sustainable freshwater management, smart infrastructure and ecosystem connectivity to ensure climate resilience, protection of biodiversity and ecosystem services Maintain and update as necessary the LHGI strategic plan and work plan as per the focus areas outlined above. Work closely with the LHGI Leader to prepare the annual plan of the programme, with a particular focus on freshwater and infrastructure development Specifically, develop projects within the GIs programme objectives for larger regional understanding of natural resources in the Eastern Himalayas with reference to landscape economics; hydrology, ; water resources/river basins Management, water policy Public-Private Partnership; sustainable infrastructure development including hydropower. Coordinate with the three country offices in planning and implementation of the work plan activities that pertain to freshwater and sustainable infrastructure Represent LHGI in all relevant meetings and interactions as and when required. Develop partnerships and coordinate with partner organizations at different levels of projects implementation.
        5. Advocacy & Communications Plan and implement advocacy and outreach activities for the achievement of the objectives of the programme, with a focus on freshwater and sustainable infrastructure development Liaise with key stakeholders in the region including the national, local governments, regional bodies, I/NGOs and partners as needed. Contribute to the development and dissemination of communication materials (print and online) to reach out to diverse stakeholders
        6. Fundraising & donor engagement : Responsible for assisting the GI leader in developing and implementing fundraising and donor engagement strategy in line with national concerns and WWF global priorities with respect to the LHGI. Liaise with country focal points to collate and compile information/proposals. Act as the focal person and responsible for all NI projects and workshops in the region.
        7. Monitoring , Evaluation, Reporting and Compliance: Maintain and update the LHGI sub-regional monitoring and evaluation plan and facilitate the development and operationalisation of M&E plans for implementing offices. Facilitate the LHGI processes for review of progress against the strategic plan and work plan, management responses, and lessons learning. Contribute to the technical report to the network on a bi-annual basis according to the network standards by collating and assimilating the programmes/projects technical reports from the three country offices. Conduct regular follow up of programmes/projects and related activities and assess their larger impacts. Communicate regularly with the three country offices and the donors on the progress. Coordinate with WWF network on sharing lessons learned and adaptive management. Review annual project budgets and Assist Operations Department for timely reporting to the concerned donors.
        8. Working Relationships: Interact frequently with three country focal persons, enabling team members and coordinators/ managers / officers and Network Support Unit. External: Interact frequently with government line agencies, regional bodies, I/NGOs and partners as when needed. Working within the WWF India River basin water team under the guidance of WWF India Director River basin Administratively reports to WWF India
        9. Qualifications: Master’s in natural science or related field (may include Landscape Economics; Water Policy Research; Water Resources/river basins Management)
        10. Experience: At least five years of experience in the field of natural resource conservation and management, with experience in climate change, freshwater, and sustainable development. Relevant experience in programme management, research, advocacy and fundraising with Government/Non Government organisation is essential. An understanding of Himalayan ecology, traditional water management systems, issues related to infrastructure development (including hydropower), recent developments in practices and policies related to water/river basins management will be an added advantage.
        11. Skills and Abilities: A good understanding of project development and management. Willing to travel to the field locations in the area of work in the region.  Excellent communications and advocacy skills. Skills in proposal development and report writing, presentations.  Computer skills such as MS Office, database and other related software. Ability to work under pressure for output delivery on deadlines.
